This article uses both "centimeter" and "centimetre". Please make it uniform by switching "centimeter" to "centimetre". 123.51.107.94 (talk) 00:13, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sleeping habits

[edit]

Just watched a video on how some owls, or maybe all of them, can sleep face-down. It would be interesting to add it to the article. - Joaquin89uy (talk) 11:18, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Under Families in the infobox, please link Palaeoglaucidae to Palaeoglaux as Palaeoglaux is the only known genus in the family. Also add the Ypresiglaucidae family (linked to Ypresiglaux). 50.196.175.13 (talk) 16:21, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Regarding Palaeoglaucidae, I don't see why it should be linked to Palaeoglaux if it isn't the actual family. Regarding Ypresiglaucidae, a source will be needed to add that. Thanks! ~ Eejit43 (talk) 01:54, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Poetic Access

[edit]

There is a poem by Baudelaire: ´´ The Owls´´. Perhaps one could bring it in, there are some english versions. ( Ulftomme ) 2A00:1830:A001:F007:0:0:0:8 (talk) 14:54, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Attacks on humans section

[edit]

I feel it might be slightly presumptuous of me to delete it out of hand, but in my opinion the top level section for attacks on humans is unnecessary and unencylopedic. This treatment is utterly disproportionate given the importance of the bird family and the relative unimportance of owl attacks on humans. It ought to be relegated to a very short notice in the section on behavior, or possibly to another article entirely.

Unless someone feels strongly, I think I will delete it shortly. Philly6097 (talk) 17:46, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not an editor who's been heavily involved in this article. However, I would agree with you. On the basis of WP:UNDUE, I think a section describing two owl attacks on humans is out of proportion to the prominence of such attacks in reliable sources.
It appears that this section was created due to the decision to an article specifically on owl attacks on humans was unsuited to Wikipedia and should be deleted. The limited content there was moved to this article. Nothing has been added to that content since it was added in this revision in 2013. I am assuming that the deletion of that article was a good decision, and moving the content here was a good faith, but incorrect, decision to preserve that content.
